[#SJMONEYSEGMENT] I’M IN YOUR BAG! HOW ARE YOU SAVING FOR THIS (Possible) RECESSION?

Right at the beginning of this year I thought the world was ending but boy oh boy was I wrong. Things went from uglier to ugliest real quick! Corona Virus gave us all the necessary scare we needed. The precious lives that ended were so sudden and very sad. We are in a scary time. People are out of work, businesses at out of business and CEOs are well, being CEOs lol. (*cough* Jeff Besos) The president recently confirmed that amidst this crisis the country will most likely be heading towards a recession soon. Scary! What does that mean for us though? The average employee? Stay-at-home-mom, Small business owner and blue collared worker? I strongly believe now is the time to get creative with our finances and figure out ways out of our typical careers and jobs to make money. Remember the famine is only a famine if you didn’t save and prepare. In this post I have compiled a list of side gigs and effective apps that helps with saving and budgeting. I would like to point out that this virus has really helped to get in my bag and secure it! Hell I’m holding on to it for my dear life!

INFLUENCER

Remember few weeks ago when we were saying how nonessential influencer work is? I ain’t pointing no finger but I know you were in the bunch lol. Now everyone is on Tiki’s Tok ( Which we should leave for the kids by the way. I’m talking to you parents) and going live on instagram. Small problem… You do that for fun and your mates actually made a career of it. Some people are even making millions at this point. Shocking, I know. Here’s how you can monetize your instagram and facebook.

FREELANCE WORK

You’ve got a hobby. Trust me we all do even when we think we don’t. For me I have many hobbies which is where my problems lie but you can most likely find work with your hobby. There are many side gigs for entrepreneurs, hairstylists, nail techs, braiders, writers, coders and so much more! Find your hobby then do a small google search and boom you’re on your way to your first gig.

Download the Digit app

I personally use this app so whenever I’m sharing information about saving I always recommend it. I have been using Digit for a little over nine months now and I would have been able to save close to a thousand dollars if I stayed consistent and didn’t invest the savings into my business. However, Digit helps you build up the habit of saving without your knowledge. They save your “chicken change” until they become tangible amounts. You have the option to withdraw to your account. I gave more details about the app in my recent podcast episode, listen if you’re interested.

Financial Planning Is A Must!

You have all the time in the world to at the moment . The very least you can do is get your ducks in a row. I understand that we’re all going through a traumatic experience at the moment and it is important to move at your own pace, but I think now is the time to strategize for financial stability. I have been watching Tiffany the Budgetnista’s (Follow her on instagram, she’s dope!) live videos and I’m slowing progressing to becoming a saver. It’s hard undressing your spending habits and cutting things out of your life but it’s beneficial if you have a goal. A little birdie told me that the house market is about to go down. I think that’s a great time to work towards buying a house because it’s gonna be dirt cheap! Things would be a lot easier if you’re saving towards that goal. My Point here is check out Tiffany The Budgetnista. She will help you get your finances right!

Credit Karma

I am a credit Karma success story. Prior to using the app my credit score was ugly, no like disaster hurricane Katrina ugly! I had so many charges, collection reports, bills, claims and what not. Some I didn’t even know about. When I started using the app they alerted me of everything that was going on pertaining to my credit. Through their recommendations I was able to groom and nurture my credit. My score went up almost 200 points! I kid you not when I say that credit Karma literally saved my credit. This app is an essential especially in times like these where people are struggling. It’s important to stay ahead of your debt.

This is where I’m going to stop loves. I really hope this content was helpful. If you are interested in being in charge of finances or starting a creative career please check out my new podcast; The Essentials Podcast. I talk about all of these things in depth with a few guests and experts. Check out my recent episode for more insight on this topic.

That’s all for now until next time stay fabulous!
