JAEL AT 20: 10 THINGS I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR

Hey dolls,

One month from now I will be turning twenty. If you asked for my age a year ago and I said “twenty” you need to mind your business.*I’m accepting gifts through cash-app only. Help a bih pay off those student loans.* I’m nervous, excited , and can’t help the fact that I feel old. Before I turned eighteen I used to fantasize about being an “adult adult”!! Nobody told me this shit was an extreme sport. I’m always sweating under my wig, overthinking and sometimes just not thinking at all. Most times I don’t know what the hell I’m doing but I can’t blame that on adulthood, I’ve always been like that. Y’all could have at least warned me. I have been finessing my way through life period. Here is what I have learned so far.

  1. Learn to love yourself: You don’t get a manual to teach you how to love yourself. You gotta learn like the rest of us. The first step is to accept yourself. Write down your flaws, things that bothers you that you can change about yourself. Work on it. If it’s something that you can not change then learn to accept it. Be gentle with yourself. Be kind to yourself and speak to yourself the way you would want others to. Change will always start with you.

2. Be Consistent: Be consistent in whatever you’re doing. Consistency pays off. At first people will laugh but when you continue they’ll start to pay attention and eventually your hard work pays off. Most of the people that have succeeded in life did because they were consistent and deaf to the world.

  • 3. Learn to let go: We all have had horrible things happen to us in life, some more than others. It is very important to let go. Sometimes we dwell so much on the past that we forget that there’s a beautiful future ahead of us. We are all striving for better and better can only come when you make the decision to let go.

  • 4. Confidence is not cockiness: Throughout my life people have tried to silence my confidence by telling me to be humble. The thing is being humble doesn’t mean that you’re not confident or you don’t know who you are. I will be humble but I will still them know! My confidence can never be silenced and there’s a thick line between confidence and cockiness. Tell em I told you so.

  • 5. Likes do not equal self worth: Gone are the days where we allow the internet and social media to determine our self worth. First of all Instagram issa scam! Nobody is living a perfect life and the people you wanna be like really wants to be like you; authentic. Don’t fall into that trap.
  • 6. Your intuition is always right: I don’t care what anyone says, if your vibrations are not sitting right with me I know that you will be trouble to me. Many times I doubted my intuition and played it off but every single time I have been right. Listen to your intuition sis it’ll take you far!

  • 7. What we not gone do is build a man: If his mama didn’t raise him right please leave him alone. You are not a baby sitter nor are you bob the builder. Stop trying to fix a grown ass man and go drink some water and exfoliate.
  • 8.Small girl big God: God is the baddest period. I can’t stress how important it is to put him first. Life will never work out in your favor if God is not at the center of it all.

  • 9. Become the bag so you don’t have to secure it: You’ve heard of marry millionaires but have you heard of becoming that millionaire that people would want you to marry? Think big. If you are the bag then you don’t need to secure it period!
  • 10. Drink water and mind the business that pays you: I can’t stress this enough. I told all my friends this year… if it’s not paying me please don’t bring it to my attention. I don’t have time to be discussing people when I can use that same energy to write business proposals. It’s a “run me my check” kinda season.

I hope I made sense and you were able to take something away from this post. I’m off to eating fufu, dancing and thanking God for another decade. If you see me next time and I tell you I’m eighteen mind your business.

That’s all for now, until next time stay fabu-lous!

Peace, love and happy shopping

This post is the best! LOVE #8. I think that was something I learned way too late in life. And #7 is such a great tip…I’m so guilty of doing that.
