In the United States I identify as OTHER. I am not African American because I have a green card and not a naturalization form, I am not black because you need a primary source to claim those rights I believe. But there is no box that I can check that will represent me as an African so I check other. I am Liberian/Ivorian so where do I fit into the ‘great’ America you ask? I fit in with the minority because I will only ever be that in their eyes. The fact that they’re not decent enough to recognize me as an African is proof enough that America is not the land of the free. I am storyteller and boy do I have some stories to tell my children.
