WHY I DON’T LIKE DESIGNER BRANDS

Fashion week is over. The buzz has died down. Here I am to talk shit about designer labels. It’s not that I hate designer labels but I just really dislike the popular ones and what they’re doing to black culture as a whole. Two weeks ago I saw some kids stealing chips from my local Walgreens, I was surprised to see one of them had on a LV belt. I kept thinking what if he saved that money and put it towards his education or even bettering himself… what if?

That’s the same trend I have noticed with black celebrities today. They are so busy flexing to realize that they’re damaging the generation that looks up to them. Rappers of today are too busy flexing and giving designer brands free promotions through their songs to notice that the people listening to their songs want to be just like them at all cost. So we have successfully built a society of poor rich criminals because of designer brands and how much we worship them.

One year ago I was scrolling through Facebook and I saw a post claiming that a popular designer stole the designs of a local Senegalese designer. When I read the comments majority of the comments were dragging the designer but what was baffling is that some people blamed the Senegalese designer for making her designs public. I was appalled that some people still think something as vicious and vindictive is okay. Not long after that Top Shop, Louis Vuitton and other big names started selling “Ghana Must Go” bags as if it were their idea or they invented them. How can you steal from the entire Western Hemisphere of Africa and just stick your label on it? I’m still confused on how they think shit works. And why is stealing from African culture and sticking your label on it the new trend? I’m just amazed that after years of stealing our resources they’re not satisfied they’re coming after our culture now.

I hate some designer brands because of the fact that they not inclusive, and because they believe everything is their right even something as sacred as ones culture and traditions. When are we going to wake up and see what they’re doing to us? Fashion is slowly dying because people no longer want to think of new ideas, designers of today are no longer innovative. They’re just looking to ride on the next wave and not start the wave. Fashion is slowly dying folks.

That’s all for now, until next time stay fabu-lous!

Peace, love and happy shopping
